What are common questions about acupuncture, herbal remedies, or deep tissue massage?

How does acupuncture help relieve pain?

Acupuncture does more than simply suppress pain. By stimulating sensory nerves and the pain-regulating systems of the spinal cord and brain, it may activate the body’s natural pain-relieving and healing responses.

1. Activates the body’s natural pain-relief system

Acupuncture may stimulate the release of endorphins, enkephalins, and other naturally occurring pain-relieving substances. These chemicals act as the body’s own “natural painkillers,” helping reduce pain sensitivity and discomfort.

2. Modulates pain-signal transmission

The sensory stimulation produced by acupuncture can influence how the spinal cord and brain process pain. It may also activate descending pain-inhibitory pathways from the brain to the spinal cord, helping reduce the amplification and transmission of pain signals.

This may be especially helpful for people with persistent pain or an overly sensitized nervous system.

3. Reduces muscle and fascial tension

What kind of information helps new patients understand Traditional Chinese Medicine?

What kind of information would help someone who's new to traditional Chinese medicine feel more comfortable and understand how it can help them?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient healthcare system that has been practiced for thousands of years. It focuses on the balance of Qi (life energy) and addressing the root cause of health issues, rather than just treating symptoms. Our clinic integrates this wisdom with modern wellness practices. We encourage you to explore our Conditions and Treatments pages to learn more about how TCM can specifically benefit you. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have during your consultation.

Are there common myths or worries about your services?

Yes. Many new patients have understandable concerns about acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Here are several common misconceptions we would like to clarify:

“Acupuncture needles are painful.”

Acupuncture needles are sterile, single-use, and much thinner than injection needles. Most patients feel little or no discomfort during insertion. Mild aching, warmth, tingling, heaviness, or pressure may occur, but treatment should not feel sharply or persistently painful.

“I have to believe in acupuncture for it to work.”

Acupuncture does not depend solely on belief. Research suggests that it can stimulate sensory nerves, influence pain-processing pathways, release natural pain-relieving chemicals, and affect muscle tension and local circulation. Expectations and the treatment environment may influence any healthcare experience, but acupuncture also produces measurable physiological responses.

“One treatment should cure the problem.”

While some patients notice improvement after a single treatment, acupuncture is often a process. The number of sessions required depends on the individual, the condition being treated, and how long the condition has been present. We will discuss a personalized treatment plan with you during your initial consultation.
